Orillia is nicknamed the “Sunshine City.” Part of the Huronia region, it is a politically independent city situated within the bounds of Simcoe County. Home to more than 30,000 people, Orillia is serviced by Orillia Transit, all routes of which depart from and end at the downtown bus terminal.

The Ontario Provincial Police Headquarters are localed in Orillia at the Lincoln M. Alexander Building on Memorial Avenue, and the city boasts two newspapers in the Orillia Packet and Times and Orillia Today. In terms of the sights in Orillia, the shores of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching are both part of the landscape, and traveling through a series of lakes, including two of the highest hydraulic lift locks in the world, Lake Ontario is accessible as well.

Casino Rama, which is located on the Chippewas of Rama First Nation reserve lands, is both a huge tourist draw and the biggest employer of Orillia residents. For fun, The Orillia Museum of Art & History and Algonquin Provincial Park are popular as well. Annual events in the City include Christmas in June, the largest Canada Day event in Central Ontario, the Mariposa Folk Festival, and the Scottish Festival at Couchiching Beach Park and Centennial Park.
